Great ways to detox your mind

Great ways to detox your mind

We live in a fast paced world where everyone and everything is constantly pulling us in a million different directions. There are so many low vibrating frequencies in our everyday activities, it’s easy to become emotionally, mentally and spiritually depleted.

The very way we live is against our nature. We weren’t created to work 8-12 hours a day. Sitting at desks, working in factories, boardrooms, commuting via plane, train and automobiles- it’s exhausting. We are Global and international yet can’t travel to our own “self” to find balance.

The best way to declutter and detox the mind is to remove your body from this unnatural way of living, even if only for 20 minutes. We aren’t all in the financial position to take a sabbatical to a beautiful rain forest but even if you go to a nearby park or even just your backyard…. get yourself out of the office, classroom or house and into nature.

Find a space where you can lose yourself for at least 20 minutes (yes, that’s all it takes - there are studies on this). If you can, leave your phone at home or in the car. The point is to avoid distractions. This is YOUR time. Just you and nothingness.

Find a pretty view, for example a shady weeping willow tree, a creek or a bed of flowers. As you sit and connect with nature, remember that we are a part of it. We come from the earth thus, the healing energy we absorb from just being barefoot on a patch of grass shouldn’t be that surprising.

Now as you sit in your new relaxing space, try to clear your mind. Don’t think of work or the errands you have to run later that day. Don’t think of what you’re making for dinner tonight or if you paid that bill or not. There will be another time for that.

A good practice while sitting with your legs folded is to close your eyes, take several deep and very slow breaths - and in your mind, count backwards from 10 to 1 - sinking more and more into your chest with each breath and dropping you shoulders down. If your busy thoughts come trickling into your mind, turn the thought into a cloud and imagine it floating away until you can’t see it anymore. Say to the unwelcome thought as it floats away - “I see you, I acknowledge you and I will get to you when it’s your time”. This is also a great time for affirmations.

After 20 minutes you will feel restored and at least back to neutral. Do this at least 2-3 times a week. It will change your life.
