A nice, long, hot bath can be just the ticket after an overwhelming day. Soaking with bath salts and a glass of wine certainly has its appeal… but were you aware how much power water has? Beyond just soaking off a stressful day - baths can be used to channel energies and harness focus while setting our intentions during meditation.
Water is transformative! Some of the Orisha I work the best with are guardians over water. Yemoja - the Mother Goddess Orisha of all 7 seas, Oshun (Osun) - the Goddess Orisha of all bodies of fresh water - including lakes, rivers, streams/creeks and Olokun - Orisha over the deepest, unreachable and unimaginable parts of the sea. It's said that Olokun can carry our hurts, sorrows and burdens to the depths of the ocean - far away from us.
Our connection to water is as strong as the connection we have to air. Water is, after all - the first element we live in - in our mother’s womb. Have you ever noticed how an infant has a natural instinct to swim when submerged in water?
I gave birth to my youngest child on November 9th, 2020 in a bathtub filled with lukewarm water, surrounded by soft candle light and a beautiful, calming ambiance of meditation music. With my affirmation words pinned to the wall in front of me as I connected with my baby- I gave the last “push” that brought him out. Being new to water birth, I thought I may need to pull him from the water immediately for fear that he may try to take a breath under water but, he didn’t. In fact, he stayed under the water for what seemed like forever. My midwife advised me to let my child tell me when he was ready to be held. What she meant was to remove my son from the water when I notice him float to the top. To this day, my son loves being in the water. He seems to have a connection with it that brings him back to the moment we met in that bathtub. His bath time is always a spiritual moment between he and I. The water connects us.
It is in this light that we all connect to the water as a safe and sacred place. It’s familiar. It’s calming. It’s home. It can be still or always flowing like our minds. When we are in it, we become one with it.
Bruce Lee once said “Empty your mind. You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”
Take a bath, put your favorite water charging crystals in the tub with you. Add your salts, oils & herbs. Light a manifestation candle and turn on meditation music at the frequency of the Universe - 963Hz. Now sink into meditation and recite your affirmations. You’ll leave the tub feeling powerful and connected to the source!
